How do soundproof curtains work?

Sound is slowed down by mass. A thin decorative curtain lets noise straight through; a heavy sound insulating curtain with an acoustic filling holds a large part of it back. It also absorbs the echo inside the room, so the room feels noticeably calmer. It will not replace a wall or acoustic glazing, but it is the most effective noise reducing solution you can add without building work.

Which soundproof curtain is right for you?

• deNoise 1300 – single layer, 10–15 dB, 30–40% thermal insulation, 95% blackout. For moderate noise.
• deNoise 2600 – double layer, 15–25 dB, 50–60% thermal insulation, 100% blackout. Our recommendation against traffic noise.
• deNoise PRO 1550 – single layer with sewn-on blackout fabric, 13–17 dB, 35–45%, 100% blackout.
• deNoise PRO 2850 – double layer with blackout fabric, 23–37 dB, 65–85%, 100% blackout. For very loud noise.
• SonicVoid 1300 / 2600 – the same filling as an acoustic blanket with 12 mm grommets and rings for poles up to 25 mm; good as a room divider or in front of a door.

deNoise and deNoise PRO hang from 40 mm eyelets on any standard curtain pole (up to 35 mm) or from 8.5 cm gathering tape on a track.

Getting the most out of a soundproof curtain

• Let the curtain overlap the window by 15–20 cm on each side and above, and let it reach the floor – noise gets in mainly through gaps.
• For loud noise choose a double-layer curtain: twice the mass holds back much more.
• A track fixed straight to the ceiling closes the gap above the curtain.
• Join two curtains side by side with snap fastener straps so no gap is left in the middle.
• Heavy curtains need a sturdy pole with a centre bracket.

Windows, doors and rooms

If the noise comes through a door, hang a curtain in front of it or use our door soundproofing; against cold at the door see thermal door curtains. 10 to 37 dB depending on the model. The double-layer version that generously overlaps the window brings the biggest difference.

Yes. Tested at Riverbank Acoustical Laboratories, one layer reaches αw 0.75 and two layers αw 1.00 – see the certificate.

Every curtain is made to measure; sewing takes 1–2 working days, then it is shipped.
